The Ark, is delighted Chef Marcus and Jenny Bean have accepted its invitation to be its patrons. The husband and wife team has been a keen supporter of the Ark for several years, with Marcus cooking Christmas dinner for clients and volunteers, and calling in from time to time to assist with meal preparations.

“We were very honoured to be asked as patrons. As well as helping raise the profile of the charity by lending our name, we will be very hands-on patrons, and will be practically supporting fundraising events in different ways and assisting with enhancing the Ark’s services in the future,” says Marcus. “Homelessness is inclusive of everyone – a series of circumstances can lead to it happening to anyone; from any race, ability background and any gender.”

“Cooking is such a basic life skill which many clients, for whatever reason often don’t have,” adds Marcus. “We hope our involvement with the Ark will enable clients to learn new skills, and these may just contribute to giving them the confidence to move on with their lives.” Marcus and Jenny’s first role will be attending the Charity’s AGM on 27 March, and they will also be involved with ‘music on the streets’ fundraising event, The Big Busk on 6 April.

Karen Higgens, The Ark Chair says Marcus and Jenny are well respected in the community and are an inspiration to everyone who meets them. “We are delighted Marcus and Jenny have joined our team of dedicated volunteers; we have a very talented Trustee Board and some 40 plus amazing volunteers supporting and working with clients in many, many different ways,” she says. “I know they will be fantastic patrons and ambassadors for the charity; we thank them greatly for coming on board in such an active way and we are very much looking forward to a long and productive working relationship.”

“We also extend a warm invitation to anyone interested in our work to come along to our AGM and find out more about what we do and our vision for the future of the Shrewsbury Ark from our staff, volunteers and clients,” she adds.

The Annual General Meeting is being held on Wednesday, 27th March, 2019, 7.00pm with refreshments for 7.15pm start at The Gateway, Chester Street, Shrewsbury, SY1 1NB “We look forward to welcoming everyone on the night and introducing our new patrons,” she says.
